An Award-Winning, Women-Owned & Operated Law Firm
In the wake of the recent election results, The Geller Law Group (GLG) has observed a significant uptick in inquiries from LGBTQIA+ clients who are understandably concerned about the impact this political shift may have on their rights and legal protections. We are deeply saddened by the fear and uncertainty expressed by many within our community.
Our team discussed this deeply concerning issue with Washington Post columnist Petula Dvorak for her important article, “LGBTQ Families Rush to Protect Themselves from What Trump May Bring.” Through multiple interviews, members of our firm conveyed the anxieties and legal needs that have surged since the election.
Rebecca Geller, President/CEO of The Geller Law Group, emphasized the alarming nature of this surge, stating, “The number of inquiries has been jarring.”
Cassidy Stoneback, our LGBTQ+ Outreach Coordinator, noted: “People are worried and are looking for help protecting their individual rights and their families.”
Stephanie Sauer, Chair of GLG’s Family Law Practice, highlighted the stress our clients are experiencing: “It’s wildly stressful for people and they are scared. They are legitimately scared.”
Rebecca Geller further shared a poignant moment from her recent experience: “I had another consultation yesterday with a same-sex couple looking to create a power of attorney and medical directive because they are worried about their legal rights.”
GLG client Graham Hoffman succinctly expressed the unexpected nature of this situation: “This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
We are immensely proud of our reputation as a trusted and supportive legal resource for LGBTQIA+ clients in the DC region. In these challenging times, our mission to provide a safe and respectful space for legal support remains unwavering.
Since the election, the most common inquiries we have received include adoptions, power of attorney/medical directives, and transgender name changes. We continue to stand ready to assist anyone in need of legal support.
If you or anyone you know requires legal assistance, please reach out to us at office@thegellerlawgroup.com.
