An Award-Winning, Women-Owned & Operated Law Firm
Laurie Neff is a Partner in The Geller Law Group’s Family Law Practice. Her practice focuses on providing sound and balanced representation to clients navigating all aspects of family law: Divorce, Equitable Distribution, Custody, Spousal and Child Support, and Adoption (stepparent and close relative). Laurie also serves as a neutral mediator for all family law issues.
Practicing law since 2001, Laurie is an experienced and confident attorney who represents clients throughout Northern Virginia with the primary goal of achieving fair, amicable settlements in contested family law matters. She excels at resolving complicated financial issues related to marital and separate property and spousal support. She is down to earth, no-nonsense, and fair and stresses the importance of striving for resolution through alternative means.
Laurie firmly believes that court should be the last resort in family law matters and works tirelessly with clients and other counsel to achieve the best possible outcome without having to resort to protracted litigation or having a judge determine what is best for a family.
Prior to joining GLG, Laurie was a clinical professor of law at the Antonio Scalia Law School in Arlington, Virginia where she directed the Mason Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic (MVETS). A former United States Marine, Laurie’s practice during her time at MVETS was heavily focused on representing our nation’s service members and veterans in family law and civil litigation matters in the courts of Northern Virginia providing millions of dollars in pro bono legal assistance. As such, Laurie has significant experience with issues unique to military members, veterans and their dependents, including the intricacies of military divorces and issues involving division of military retirement, the Survivor Benefit Plan, and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
Prior to joining the law school faculty, Laurie worked for a major international firm and a highly regarded regional firm in Virginia Beach. She also served as a law clerk for the Fourth Judicial Circuit upon her cum laude graduation from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she served as the Lead Articles Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review.
Laurie is a member of the Virginia State Bar (Member, Family Law Section), Fairfax County Bar Association, Loudoun County Bar Association, and the Virginia Women’s Attorney’s Association (VWAA). She is currently President-Elect for the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association for the 2024-2025 term after serving as Secretary for 2023, and formerly Director at Large, Co-Director of the Holiday Reception, and Director of Judiciary.
She has presented both locally and at the state level, most recently to the Family Law Section of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association in September 2022 on After Yourko v Yourko: Protecting Clients On Both Sides of the Courtroom. This presentation examined the impact of the Court of Appeals rulings on division of military pensions when receipt of VA disability impacts former spouses portion of the awarded military retirement prior to those cases being overturned by the Virginia Supreme Court.
From 2014-2016, Laurie served as a Board Member of the Virginia Board of Veteran Services, having been appointed by former Governor Terry McAuliffe.
