John Laster

John Laster serves as Of Counsel (Retired) at The Geller Law Group. He joined GLG after merging his longtime practice, The Law Offices of John L. Laster, with the firm.

With a distinguished career spanning decades, John has been a trusted advisor to clients in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. He has extensive experience in estate planning, estate administration, elder law, special needs planning, and crafting tailored solutions for non-traditional families.

John is a member of the D.C. Estate Planning Council. He has lectured for many institutions, government agencies, civic organizations, and professional associations. For over twenty years, he taught lawyers about planning for incapacity through the D.C. Bar Continuing Legal Education program. His career also included a stint as an Adjunct Professor of Aging & Law at Georgetown University Law School.

In addition, John has served as chair of the Committee on Special Needs Trusts and Long Term Care of the American Bar Association Section on Real Property, Trust and Estate Law. He is a founding – and now emeritus – member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and a charter member of the Academy for Special Needs Planning. He also serves on the board of directors of Community Living Alternatives, Inc., a Northern Virginia organization that serves the needs of persons with disabilities.

John graduated from Oberlin College and Catholic University. He is married to Barbara Laster, a reading professor. Together, they live in Northern Virginia.
