An Award-Winning, Women-Owned & Operated Law Firm
Angela Shin is an experienced intellectual property and transactional business attorney whose practice focuses on helping businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, creatives, and brand owners protect and grow their brands. Angela counsels clients on trademark clearance, prosecution, portfolio strategy, enforcement, licensing, and other intellectual property and brand-related matters.
Prior to joining The Geller Law Group, Angela co-founded District Trademark, a boutique intellectual property law firm with offices in Washington, D.C. and Denver, Colorado. Through that practice, Angela worked closely with clients across a wide range of industries, providing practical, business-focused legal guidance on the protection, management, and commercialization of trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property assets.
Angela’s past legal experience includes serving as in-house counsel for a major U.S. media corporation, where she advised on intellectual property and commercial matters. She also worked at top global law firms, counseling clients on complex matters involving trademark prosecution and enforcement, IP licensing, and commercial contracts.
Angela brings a strategic and pragmatic approach to her work, drawing on her experience as outside counsel, in-house counsel, and a law firm founder. She enjoys working with clients at all stages of growth, from early-stage businesses developing their first brand identities to established organizations managing larger intellectual property portfolios. Her goal is to make trademark and brand protection approachable, efficient, and aligned with each client’s broader business goals.
Angela also regularly speaks on developments in trademark law, brand protection, and intellectual property strategy, including through programs for the D.C. Bar and the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF). Angela serves on AIPF’s Trademark & Copyright Committee, which provides practitioner-focused updates and educational programming on trademark and copyright protection and enforcement.
Angela was named a Rising Star in Intellectual Property by Colorado Super Lawyers during her years in private practice and was a member of the Colorado Intellectual Property American Inn of Court. She currently serves as President of the Board of Open Arms Housing, a nonprofit organization that provides permanent supportive housing to women and families experiencing homelessness in the nation’s capital.
Angela earned her J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law. While in law school, she spent a semester in Japan studying international and comparative law. She also earned a B.A. in English Literature and a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Colorado.
Outside of work, Angela enjoys metalsmithing, being a mom, and cheering — too loudly, she’s told — at her son’s varied and numerous sports games. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her son and two very spoiled cats.
