Alexander “AJ” King serves as the LGBTQ+ Coordinator for The Geller Law Group, bringing nearly two decades of experience developing and leading programs focused on LGBTQIA+ advocacy, mental health, sexual health education, racial equity, and youth empowerment. He currently serves as the Director of the Office of Intercultural Affairs and LGBTQ+ Resource Center at Howard University, where he leads initiatives that promote inclusion, education, and community engagement.
Throughout his career, AJ has worked with several well-known organizations in the Washington, DC region, including SMYAL, Latin American Youth Center, Whitman-Walker Health, and NOVASALUD, managing programs centered on health and wellness for underserved communities. He has also contributed to important public health research through George Washington University School of Public Health, supporting clinical studies related to HIV prevention, infectious diseases, and COVID-19 vaccines.
AJ is deeply passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ youth of color and has dedicated his career to addressing stigma, disparities, and barriers faced by these communities. In addition to his professional work, he has led numerous independent advocacy and education initiatives focused on substance use, racial equity, and mental health awareness.
Among his many accomplishments, AJ is the Founder and Director of Breaking Ground, an innovative theater program for LGBTQIA+ youth of color that empowers participants to share their lived experiences through original musical theater productions. The program was recognized with a 2015 Obama White House award and has produced sold-out performances at prestigious venues including Arena Stage, the ATLAS Performing Arts Center, and The Kennedy Center.
AJ also served as Co-Founder and Vice President of the Washington, DC chapter of Impulse Group, a global advocacy organization supporting the health and well-being of gay men. He earned both his Master’s degree in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling and his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of the District of Columbia.
Outside of work, AJ enjoys spending time with his mini-golden doodle Onyx, traveling, and spending time with friends. He is also a reality TV buff — some may say a Bravoholic!
