Geller Law Group Volunteers at JK Community Farm to Support Food-Insecure Families

The Geller Law Group recently held a teamwide volunteer day at The JK Community Farm, a 150-acre nonprofit farm in Purcellville, Virginia, dedicated to providing fresh, nutrient-dense food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

This marked the firm’s third volunteer day at The JK Community Farm, which practices regenerative, sustainable, chemical-free, four-season agriculture and donates 100% of what it grows.

Members of the GLG team harvested asparagus, weeded the spinach, carrot, and herb gardens, and prepared planting beds for tomato plants. In addition to donating time, the firm made a monetary contribution that will help provide fresh produce for more than 1,000 meals.

A Continued Commitment to Community Service

Since its founding, The Geller Law Group has prioritized service to local communities across Northern Virginia. In addition to the firm’s annual pro bono commitments, GLG regularly organizes in-person volunteer days where the office closes, and team members spend the day supporting local nonprofit organizations.

The firm’s community efforts have included organizing food pantry donations, sorting and moving furniture, collecting and packing diapers, planting and harvesting vegetables, preparing and serving meals, sorting donated women’s clothing, and participating in other hands-on service projects throughout the region.

The Geller Law Group also encourages employees to serve on nonprofit boards and participate in community initiatives that reflect their individual passions and values.

The JK Community Farm’s mission is to provide food education and alleviate food insecurity with nutrient-dense produce and protein.

The farm grows more than 50 varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and protein across outdoor fields, high tunnels, a greenhouse, and raised beds. Its crops are selected based on seasonality and the needs of the families served.

The JK Community Farm donates its harvest through partnerships with Loudoun Hunger Relief, Food for Others, Arlington Food Assistance Center, and DC Central Kitchen. After harvest, food pantry partners pick up produce for immediate distribution, helping ensure families receive fresh food as quickly as possible.

In addition to food production, The JK Community Farm serves as a hub for volunteerism and food education. The farm provides educational programming aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning, helping students and families learn more about nutrition, agriculture, and where food comes from.
