An Award-Winning, Women-Owned & Operated Law Firm
GLG Business Law Associate Joanna Schindler was featured in a Washington Lawyer article, “Ready to Unpause: Overcoming Barriers for Women Reentering the Legal Profession,” in the publication’s March/April 2023 edition.
The article discusses the challenges women attorneys have when returning to the legal profession after starting a family, such as concerns about gaps in their resumes and firms that don’t support work-life balance.
Joanna shared her story of leaving a traditional Northern Virginia law firm as a young attorney after they told her she could not work part-time to care for her new baby, who had difficulties.
After staying home to care for her family and then deciding to resume her legal career, Joanna faced challenges finding a firm that promoted work-life balance until she joined The Geller Law Group in April 2021.
GLG President/CEO Rebecca Geller is also quoted in the article suggesting, “There are high-quality attorneys who have left for a period of time and who want to return, but need the right circumstances…Law firms that have rigid structures are missing out.”
This nationwide problem in the legal industry and many other professions was exacerbated during the pandemic when women left the workforce in droves because of unreliable or nonexistent child-care options and inflexible employment arrangements.
