GLG President & CEO Rebecca Geller started her legal career at a large DC-based law firm. After seeing strong, brilliant, talented women fleeing the profession because senior lawyers showed disrespect for lives outside the firm, Rebecca determined it was time to stop making women fit into work environments traditionally defined by men and founded The Geller Law Group.
Within a decade, The Geller Law Group has grown from one to over 30 lawyers and professional staff and has been recognized on Best Places to Work lists from both Washington Business Journal and Virginia Business for revolutionizing the law firm model by creating an environment where employees can be actively involved parents.
GLG also has been included among a select group of companies recognized by Best Workplaces for Commuters for offering employees exceptional commuter benefits. Even before the pandemic, we set up and allowed our team to work from home, which helps reduce the number of cars on the road, thereby reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions, fossil fuel consumption, and energy usage. Additionally, telecommuting makes our employees’ lives easier and more manageable as they meet work and family life challenges.
The Geller Law Group works in a team and collaborative environment, and we expect our co-workers to strive towards this common goal. We work with all team members to develop their strengths because we feel that in a collaborative, flexible work environment with stimulating legal work they will be happiest, which ultimately benefits the firm and its clients.
Our culture also embraces Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We regularly conduct trainings focused on issues such as sexual harassment, hostile work environment, and racial sensitivity/diversity. Our high retention rate reflects our firm’s commitment to a genuine focus on our employees’ overall well-being.
As a founding principle of the firm, we have always encouraged our employees to work from home and build their schedules around the lives of their families and our clients. During the pandemic, our remote work and flexible schedule policies were utilized more than ever enabling working parents to help their kids with virtual school, take care of their children when childcare wasn’t available, and help older relatives.
We also encourage and enable our team to actively support their communities and chosen nonprofits. Giving back brings our employees a sense of pride in their work and belonging within a firm that truly cares about its community.
We support our employees’ personal interests outside of work through our firm’s donation matching program and regularly buy tickets for them to attend charitable events for causes they support. We’ve donated over $750,000 in money and gift certificates to fundraisers and we provide legal assistance to organizations our team members care about.
